During the past years Valencia grew to be one of the most important yachting and sportboat centres on the Spanish Mediterranean shore. Its "great catch" of the century was bringing the " 32nd America's Cup", held in 2008, to the western Med. In autumn 2009, two pre-races for the 33rd America's Cup will be held in Valencia, followed by the Finals held in 2010.
Valencia has always been a favoured location for yacht owners and boaters, but in preparation for the sailing events in 2008 a new sporting marina has been built and older harbour parts have been renovated and updated.
