With about 4.9 million 20 foot TEU (equivalent units) of cargo passing through its facilities in 2007, the port of Bremerhaven is the 4th largest container port in Europe, ranging 16th worldwide. Aditionally, every year more than 1,350,000 cars are imported or exported on enourmous RoRo vessels via Bremerhaven. The only harbour outranging Bremerhaven in the automobile in and exports business is Rotterdam (NL).
Apart from its container and RoRo quays, Bremerhaven comes with important service facilities for all kinds of nautic needs, from boat building firms to nautic services and boat repairs.
Worth a visit is its Maritime Museum and the small fisherman harbour just outside the main harbour area.
Every five years Sail Bremerhaven is held, a large sailing convention that attracts tall ships from all over the world. The next convention will be held in 2010.
